The Academic Booster Club Board of Directors has been recognizing students of the Montrose RE-1J School District for their high academic performance and supporting teachers and staff through its grants program since 1983.

Each month during the school year, one student from each school within the RE-1J District is recognized as an ABC Student of the Month. This includes students from each of the six elementary schools, three middle schools, Montrose and Olathe High Schools as well as Peak Academy, Vista Charter High School, and Black Canyon High School, for a total of around 126 students per year. In addition, ABC presents academic letters and bars to Montrose & Olathe High School students who have maintained a minimum 3.75 GPA for the previous year.

In the past ten years, ABC has been able to award $3,000 – $8,000/year in teacher grants with an average amount of $500/ request. A few of our recent teacher grants have included a grant to the Columbine Middle School Community Challenge Technology grant to support a pilot program providing I-pads to teachers and students as a tool to increase test scores. Another grant provided funds for books to help establish the new Vista Charter School Library. ABC also provided funds to the Olathe Middle School Band for equipment that would allow special needs students to participate in their band program.

In the early days of A+BC, funding for these programs came largely from a substantial bequest from the Cliff & Louise Baldrige Estate, and several substantial projects were funded. However, those funds were slowly diminished and in 2004, the Board established a long-term saving fund, requiring that 25% of all donations be invested in this fund until a goal of $100,000 was finally reached last spring. We now will be able to use the interest from this fund to help support our teacher grants program. However, as you are aware, investment returns are neither very high nor consistent; thus, we still are dependent upon donations from businesses, organizations and individuals such as yourselves to fund all three programs.

The Board would like to thank you for your past support and hope that you once again will choose to support ABC by renewing your membership with a generous donation that will be used to help us continue to recognize and award our teachers and students for their outstanding academic performance.

With Sincere Appreciation,

A+BC Committee
